Sharon Viergutz

Sharon Viergutz, 86, of Leigh, Nebraska, died Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Clarkson Community Care Center in Clarkson, Nebraska.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Marsha Jark-Swain officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time on Friday. Memorials are suggested to the quilting program at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Leigh. Casual dress for the service is suggested - wear your Husker or Chief’s colors.

Sharon Viergutz was born April 13, 1940, in Pleasant Dale, Nebraska, to John and Lillian (Martin) Deden. She graduated from Shelby High School, Shelby, Nebraska, and on June 15, 1958, was united in marriage to Robert Viergutz. They raised their family on a farm near Silver Creek, Nebraska. Sharon worked at Dale Electronics, did waitressing in Osceola, Nebraska, and worked at D & L in Columbus. They moved to rural Leigh in the mid 1990’s.

Sharon enjoyed sewing, reading, canning, gardening, Husker sports, Kansas City Chiefs, and quilting. She was a member of the quilting group at St. Paul’s Lutheran where she was a member. Sharon loved spending time at the cabin on the Platte River where she could be found just sitting back and reading a book.
