LINCOLN — After losing by 15 points and losing their tallest player due to a collision a day earlier, Cross County had a quick turnaround at 9 a.m. Saturday morning to battle Norfolk Catholic in the Class C-2 state tourney third-place game played at Lincoln Northwest High School.

Cougars win opener at State

LINCOLN — Cross County made its first state tourney appearance memorable with a 44-30 win over Summerland Wednesday. The Cougars (23-5) will play top seed Amherst Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Senior Girls Basketball Career Stats

New school records were set for girls’ basketball this season. Note High Plains did not have any seniors in girls’ basketball this season. Rori Wieseman (Osceola) got a new school record for career assists as she achieved 244 assists.

LINCOLN — The Cougars saw their season come to an abrupt ending on Wednesday, being upset in the opening round of the Class C2 2024 NSAA State Girls Basketball Championships.Bishop Neumann used its speed and a stingy defense en route to a 61-40 win over Cross County (23-4).

STROMSBURG – After making the 2022-23 NSAA girls basketball state tournament with no seniors on his roster, Cross County head coach Mitch Boshart was bold enough to tell his team that they should be aiming at state championship aspirations.

Eight out of Eleven Guaranteed a Medal

OMAHA — High Plains has three guaranteed for a medal, Cross County-Osceola has their lone wrestler getting a medal, and Shelby-Rising City has four in medal-winning position after one day of state wrestling in Omaha. Dakota Gress (G120) came in to the middle of the pack of girls.

CC Boys Lose to Undefeated Auburn

After a last-second shot by Ashton Seim to defeat the David City Scouts and a relatively easy 89-56 win over East Butler, the Cougars traveled to Auburn to face the number two (according to NSAA) C1 undefeated team. This was a tall task for any team, and the Cougars seemed up for the challenge.

State Wrestling Preview

OMAHA– Ten boys and one girl are off to Omaha for state wrestling. This is the pinnacle of their career in an individual sport. For Dakota Gress, a sophomore at High Plains, she is a pioneer for girls’ wrestling. She wrestled last year as a freshman. This year she is state bound with a 28-9 record.

Class C District 1 (CCO) 126: Devin Nuttelman (41-8) placed 2nd and scored 18.0 team points. Champ. Round 1 - Devin Nuttelman (CCO, 41-8) received a bye. Quarterfinal - Devin Nuttelman won by fall over Gage Brown (Thayer Central, 20-14) in 3:07.
