TWENTY YEARS AGO September 19, 2002

Pinnacle Bank Shelby branch president Doug Rathjen would like to announce that Shelly Smith will join him this farm loan renewal season as an agricultural and commercial loan officer. Shelly has been with Pinnacle since 1995, serving in Osceola and most recently as Operations Manager in Shelby.

The Huskies dominated Spalding Academy on their field and won by a score of 56-20. Colby Vrbka started the scoring in the first quarter on a 26 yard touchdown run. Vrbka rushed for 166 yards on 23 carries. Adam Perry led the defense with nine tackles. Clint Goelz and Scott Crook added seven and six tackles respectively.

THIRTY YEARS AGO September 24, 1992

Leonard Lefler and his crew are giving a face lift to the Nu-Style Beauty Salon in Shelby owned by Barb Duren.

Keith Jurrens was presented a plaque in recognition of twenty years of excellence as a volleyball coach at Shelby High School.

Tyler Alan Abbott, son of Becky Stem and Chad Abbott, was baptized September 13th at the Methodist Church by Rev. John Ewton.

A weekend family reunion was held at the Maxine Glatter residence Out of town guests enjoyed a stay at Hal and Mary Parrish’s bed and breakfast.

FORTY YEARS AGO September 23, 1982 A weekend theft of redwood two by fours and asphalt shingles from Shelby Lumber and vandalism at the Shelby high school football field were apparently related, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Department. It is believed that these activities took place around one o’clock Monday morning.
