In addition to the e-edition, The Polk County News has been working to improve the website. Over the last few months we have rolled out a number of new features. We added a weekly poll, sudoku and crossword puzzles, videos and photo galleries. We have also added our public notices and classifieds ads to the site to help the community know what is going on in their local municipalities and see which businesses are hiring.
The latest implementation is getting faster results for high school sports on the website. Being a weekly newspaper, by the time you read the sports page a lot of the information is almost a week old. By publishing to www.polkcountynews.net readers will be able to follow their favorite teams. If a game or match happens on Monday, we want to have the results to you on Tuesday.
We have also started to post obituaries to our website as soon as we are notified of an area death. The idea behind getting the obituary up faster is it allows more people to hear the news and attend services if they choose. Much like sports, if an obituary misses this week’s print edition, it takes an entire week before it can be printed. By they funeral services may have already happened.
As we move to this digital-first way of thinking, keep an eye on your Facebook feeds. We will be sharing more items to Facebook in hopes of reaching as many people as possible — so feel free to share the posts when you see them.
