What a blessing to have such beautiful weather this past week—especially for August in Nebraska! We have enjoyed sitting on the patio each day doing various activities or as one resident stated, “Just sitting looking at the flowers.” We’re taking advantage of each day of nice weather for all too soon the cold winds will be blowing. Along with the flowers, butterflies have flitted their way around the garden leading our eyes on various trails.

One morning we were enjoying some chit-chat and were reading a few quips from a book by Judge Roy English. It’s a small book with bits of “Grandpa’s Country Wisdom” such as “Don’t name a pig you plan to eat,” or “Don’t let the chickens roost over the well.” How about this one? “Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.” Did you know “A bumble bee is faster than a John Deere Tractor?” This one was readily agreed upon by a couple of former farmers who had experiences with bees and wasps. That morning was filled with laughs and giggles among our elders, some of whom had stories of their own!
