TEN YEARS AGO

August 2, 2012

Katherine Jean Bowman and David Michael Rystrom were married May 19th at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York.

Cindy Lehn and David Anderson announced their engagement with a October wedding planned.

Leland “Pete” and Linda Peterson of Stromsburg will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on August 5th, 2012. They were married at the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

August 22, 2002

Pictured was the new painting of the Cross County Cougar, perched atop a mountain of rocks welcoming you as you walk into the high school building in Stromsburg. The scene replaces the Viking which formerly welcomed you into the school.

Perry and Sharon Noyd announce the engagement of their daughter, Amanda Noyd of Shelton to Eric Goldfish, son of Barb Goldfish and the late Gordon Goldfish of Kearney.

The Stromsburg Chamber of Commerce flat participated in the Columbus Days parade. King Tim Teegerstrom and Queen Elaine Westring and the four attendants greeted the hundreds of people along the parade route. It was a chilly, cloudy day but the sprinkles didn’t fall until the parade was over.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

August 27, 1992

Miss Tamara Schmidt and Miss Pam Mashek have been added to the faculty for the 1992-1993 school year at Stromsburg Public Schools. Schmidt will teach English and Mashek will teach vocal music.

Randy and Micki Lundeen of Axtell are the parents of a son, Erik Randall born August 15th. Maternal grandparents are Duane and Marilyn Peterson of Stromsburg.

Theodore Janky entered the Methodist Hospital in Omaha the 24th for eye surgery.

Appearing for their fourth parade of the season, King Vayden Anderson and Queen Jewell Hanson traveled to Platte County to participate in the Columbus Days parade on Sunday, August 23rd.

FORTY YEARS AGO

August 26, 1982

Two ladies at Covenant Home were honored for the many years of volunteer service and untiring work they have done. Ensie Hanson and Ruth Wicklund were presented a corsage, gift and certificate of thanks for services rendered.

The fifth biennual Younglund cousins reunion was held August 13-15 at the Viking Center in Stromsburg. Seventy-five relatives and guests were registered during the event.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Glein and family attended the Co-Op Director’s Conference at the YMCA of the Rockies near Estes Park, Colorado from August 11-14.

August 24, 1972 Judith Loreman Verdine of Wash

Judith Loreman Verdine of Washington, Missouri has been selected for inclusion in the biographical compilation of Oustanding Young Women of America. Judith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Loreman.

Polk will be celebrating its annual Bean Days on September 1st and 2nd.

AW-2 Steve Johnson arrived from Bermuda to spend some time with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Johnson. He will return to Brunsick, Maine after his stay here.

Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Fox of Norfolk, Virginia announce the engagement of their granddaughter, Barbara Wilson to RMSN Lynn Sundberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sundberg of Stromsburg.

Miss Linda R. Johnson has received an invitation from Governor Frank Morrison to be a delegate to the second annual conference on youth to be held August 24th in Lincoln.

SEVENTY YEARS AGO

August 21, 1952

Miss Maurine Graves of Los Angeles, California and Arthur P. Beaudry were married on Wednesday, August 6th in Los Angeles.

Dr. and Mrs. Walter Fahrer and sons, Norman and Wally of Lindsborg, Kansas arrived Thursday and spent the weekend with relatives and friends in the area.

Mrs. Louise French, who had spent two months in California, returned to the home of her niece, Mrs. Melvin Kriefels and family in York on Thuirsday. Pastor Cecil Johnson of the Cove

Pastor Cecil Johnson of the Covenant Church was re-elected president of the Nebraska Y.P. and S.S. Association. He was also selected to attend the annual Covenant Youth of America meeting scheduled for Seattle, Washington.

EIGHTY YEARS AGO

August 20, 1942

A picnic for Hjalmer Bloom, who leaves for the army camp on Saturday, was held at Buckley Park.

Mrs. M. F. Phillips entertained the Priscilla Club at her home last Thursday afternoon with nine members present.

Several relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mrs. J. W. Toline Monday afternoon to help her celebrate her birthday.

NINETY YEARS AGO

August 25, 1932

Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Eckblade and family were up from Schuyler Tuesday and enjoyed a picnic with the Henry and Albert Larson families.

Mrs. L. R. Flynn of Grant came Saturday to visit her sisters, Misses Edith and Helen Buckley.

About fifty people gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Obrist on Monday evening to celebrate the finishing of the threshing season. The guests included members of their crew with their wives and families, and a pleasant evening was spent.
