Ah, yes, “From the (Record) Files” -- that delightful column, invoking a weekly trip down memory lane or perhaps a learning experience, depending upon one’s community ties or length of local residency.

A recently published clip from January 1992 addressed the February 7 retirement open house honoring Edith Buckmaster.

Edie, as she was fondly known to many, had long managed the Osceola Senior Center. Those who knew her can well imagine how much her presence brightened the experience for all involved!

Edie resided in the local Mid Town apartments and could be located by simply following the ray of sunshine that constantly surrounded her!

Through Birdie Weeden Beauseigneur being a niece to Edie and cousin to “our” Bobby, he and I also “claimed” Edie! Although formerly of Nebraska, Birdie resided in Iowa. Upon learning Birdie was planning to bring Edie to Iowa for a long visit, the proverbial “light bulb” flashed! Coincidentally, we’d been thinking of a little jaunt to Iowa, so it made sense that we bring Edie to Birdie!.

With plans confirmed, we soon found ourselves “on the road,” experiencing a little jaunt filled with conversation, jokes and LOTS of laughter, intermingled with those inevitable stops for food, etc. -- an excursion fondly deemed “A HOOT”!!!

We four managed a timely meeting at the predetermined destination, and -- as we’d teasingly assured Edie -- we even came to a complete stop before dropping her off!

I am reminded of “Ediebuck,” a nickname associated with Edie’s quest to learn to use a computer -- IN HER 90’s! Yes, Edie remained eager to learn, to share, to love, to enjoy and was always -- ALWAYS -- “ready to roll”!!!

So, thank you again, Polk County News, for another pleasant trip down memory lane, via “The (Record) Files.”

‘Til next week, stay safe and keep well. Remember the COMMUNITY GALA fundraiser, scheduled for February 5 at the Polk County Fairgrounds, to benefit the Osceola Q150 Celebration. We’ve been advised tickets are required, and further information can be obtained via email Osceolacommunityactiongroup@gmail.com or by contacting Osceola Community Action Group members: Tasha Weller, Sarah Johnson or Amy Theis.
