Chamber of Commerce Secret Santa winners were Paige Urban, Wes Jones and Deb Scholz. Christmas lighting winners were town winners: 1st place, Ron and Connie Boruch; 2nd place, Roger and Lisa Stowe; 3rd place, Joe and Jackie Fjell. Country winners were 1st place, Dean and Louise Wheeler; 2nd place, Don and Marlene Sterup; 3rd place, Jerry and Carol Thelen. The Osceola Lady Bulldogs

The Osceola Lady Bulldogs used an impressive second half to post a come from behind victory over Elba 44-37. Rutter paced the Lady Dawgs with 10 points and 6 rebounds. The boys’ team defeated Elba by a score of 74-45 bringing their record to 6-0. Reed Johnson led the Bulldogs with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 assists and 2 blocked shots.

December 31, 1981

Mr and Mrs Tom Peterson won the First National Bank’s ATM promotion contest held during November and December; Mrs Peterson is pictured with the grand prize, a 12-inch black and white portable television set.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen Willits announce the arrival of a son, Jason Allen, born December 27th. He weighed seven pounds and three ounces.

Mr and Mrs Holly Grossnicklaus were the honored guests at a 50th wedding anniversary celebration Saturday evening.

December 30, 1971

Stacey Ann Thelen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Jarold Thelen, was born December 18th. Carolyn Wagner, Kathy and Barbara Schott have left for Hawaii to attend the wedding of Carolyn’s sister, Connie.

About 75 relatives and friends honored Mr and Mrs Calvin Carlson at a reception at St Paul Lutheran Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Conkling and Mrs. Thelma Conkling and Scott attended the funeral of George Conkling in Lincoln and the burial at Hordville.

SIXTY YEARS AGO

December 28, 1961

Mr and Mrs Chris Huggler and Hardy are spending a week in California with their son, Clair at Camp Pendelton and with the Huggler relatives. Marion E Snider, 51, of Lin

Marion E Snider, 51, of Lincoln died Sunday. The funeral service was in Lincoln and burial in Osceola

A2C Roger Gestrine came from Lincoln AFB to spend Christmas with home folks.

PFC Dean Buhl, who spent Christmas with his parents, has returned to Fort Carson, Colorado.

Beginning the first of the new year, 1962, the office of Polk County Judge will remain closed all day Saturday.

John Gondringer, 69, died Friday at his home in Gresham following a long illness.

The M.A. Mills home was judged the best decorated. Other prize winning decorations were at the Dr Eklund home. The most novel prize went to Mr. and Mrs. John Craven. John I. Anderson was pleasant

John I. Anderson was pleasantly surprised in observance of his birthday by the deacons of the Stromsburg Baptist Church

Christmas morning Jack Wieseman informed his parents by telephone that he had been advanced in rank to a corporal in the Air Force.

Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Iler have gone to Missouri to find a house near the camp to which he is being transferred.

EIGHTY YEARS AGO

December 25, 1941

Miss Mildred Nelson, employed in Washington, D.C. has arrived to spend Christmas in the home of her father, Arthur S. Nelson.

A girl, Vivian Karlene, was born December 18 to Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Ekstrom.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Nyquist entertained at a family reunion on Christmas Eve.

Margaret Huston of Washington, DC and Kay Huston of Lincoln spent Christmas vacation with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. D. Huston.

Forty choir members of the Lutheran Church and families had a surprise party at the church following choir practice for Mrs. Hultman who will leave soon with her family for their new home in Denver. Mrs. Hultman has been church organist for the last twelve years.

Inez Jones and Edmund Harkin were married at the Swede Home Church.
