Welcome Ken Kush to PCN

Body

I love sports and back on March 26th when I was let go by the York News-Times I wasn’t sure that I would ever get to do what I have loved doing for 37 years.

I have contemplated retiring at times over the past year or so but I wanted to do that on my terms and go out when I was ready to leave.

I found out that now is not the time and getting a chance to continue writing and working with all the schools, coaches and athletes in the area I am more than thankful for the Polk County News for giving me that chance.

There are a few things that I will need to learn and I guess we are going to find out if you can teach an old dog new tricks or not.

I have lived in York County since 1984, worked 28 years at Epworth Village and covered my first sporting event for the News-Times in 1988.

In 2007 or somewhere in that time frame I started working as the sports editor at the YNT while also working full time at Epworth.

In 2012 I decided to make the News-Times my only full-time job and maintained the sports editor position until around 2021 when I decided that I would rather be the assistant and allow another writer take over the reigns as I worked towards retirement.

I have covered 30 plus years of CRC volleyball and basketball tournaments and I have covered somewhere around 45-50+ state championship games over the years.

I am looking forward to working for Polk County News and getting to do what I love doing just a little bit longer.

I currently live in my Benedict with my wife Dawn who works at Collins Aerospace in York. My son and his son also live with us in Benedict along with two dogs and a cat.

So I am ready to get back to work and I hope that I can provide the area with some great sports coverage and who knows I might even show up at a school board meeting at some time.
