Turkey Winners Announced

Sixteen families are eating turkey this holiday season after winning one in the Polk County News turkey giveaway. Our readers could cut out up to 16 entries and drop them off at local businesses while shopping. Over 150 entries were received.

15 QOV AWARDED AT VETERANS’ DAY SERVICES

Superintendent Tejkl opened the day with a welcome and talked about what it means to be a veteran. He mentioned the definition is someone who completed a branch of the armed service. He wasn’t in the military but gave his appreciation to those who have.

Stay Safe Out There

By Debra Johnston, MD I learned a lot of statistics back in medical school, many of which are outdated and long since forgotten. A few still haunt me, though. One example: over 50% of seniors who suffered a broken hip would be in a nursing home, or in their grave, within a year.

Blood Pressure Clinics

Clinics to monitor blood pressure will also be held each Tuesday of the month. They will be held at the Senior Center and rotate between each town in Polk County.

Save the Date: Holiday Stroll

Save the date for Holiday Stroll on Sunday, December 10th from 3 pm to 7 pm. Featured will be a vendor fair, Christmas cookie platters, a visit from Santa Claus, carriage rides, the first annual LIGHTED parade, Village Christmas tree lighting and much more!

Fall Prevention

Nathan Olson, physical therapist with Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital will be at the Shelby Senior Center on Wednesday, December 6th at 12:30 PM. He will be speaking on preventing falls. Come join us to learn how to stay sure-footed and confident as the weather brings ice, snow and slick surfaces.
