Lisa Shoup Selected for National Choir

Lisa Shoup recently tried out to be a part of a national choir that records music. The choir is Praise & Harmony and was started by the founders of the group Acapella. Acapella may be familiar to people as the group started in the 1980s and have won Grammy awards.

Central Conference ELCA Spring Gathering

The 2023 Spring Gathering for the Central Conference of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Nebraska Synodical Women’s Organization will be held Saturday March 11th at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Shell Creek) of Columbus. The theme for the gathering is “Let Your Light Shine”.

NRD Plans Work Groups

OSCEOLA — A Local Working Group that provides advice on the priorities for many U.S. Department of Agriculture conservation programs will meet March 15, 2023, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Upper Big Blue NRD building located at 319 E 25th St. York, Nebraska.

Register for Memorial Run to help boost mental health awareness

Registration is open for the Tyler Vanderheiden Memorial Run, an annual race aimed at raising awareness and understanding of mental health that also acts as a fundraiser for Nebraska Game and Parks state park trails. The run is May 20, 2023, at Cody Park, 1899 US-83, North Platte.

Blood Pressure Clinics

Clinics to monitor blood pressure will also be held at the Polk County Health Department in Osceola, every 1st and 3rd Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Walk-ins are welcome any day during office hours.

Sign-up for Preschool in Shelby in March

Shelby-Rising City preschool registration begins March 1. Requirements include: Official state certified birth certificate, immunization records, be 3-years-old by Aug. 1 for the morning class and be 4-years-old by Aug. 1 for the afternoon class.

Shelby-Rising City Takes 3rd at McCool Junction

McCOOL JUNCTION — Shelby-Rising City competed at McCool Junction on Saturday and took home third place in the team sweepstakes. Individual results include: Jorge Chavez, Gavin Ohnemus, Jaimee Paddock, Aiden Zimmerman and Kreyten Zimmerman, OID - Runner-up.

Before the state and federal highway systems came to be, back when every road was a dirt road, the first generation of motorists prompted a “better roads” movement. Localities were interested in seeing that these “named” roads went through their towns, promoting travel and business.
