Becky Schueth This year’s Homecoming festivities began with our S-RC Student Council Members selecting our Cartoon Shows theme. Student Council kicked off spirit week by decorating downtown businesses in both Shelby & Rising City as well as S-RC Schools to show our Husky Pride!

Midwest Covenant Home Celebrates 75th Birthday

STROMSBURG — The Midwest Covenant Home celebrates their 75th birthday this year. They have several events planned for Sunday, October 9 starting around 3 p.m. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy a petting zoo, musical entertainment, a photo booth, balloon animals and a history booth.

GRAND ISLAND — Two area girls will represent Polk County at this year’s Harvest of Harmony. The Grand Island Chamber of Commerce will host the Harvest of Harmony parade. This year celebrates 80 years of Harvest of Harmony and 150 years of Grand Island.

Dean Wheeler of Osceola is this week’s Polk County News Football Contest winner! He only missed two entries. Runner-up also missing two was Dennis Koinzan of Stromsburg. They both missed the upset games of Texas versus Texas Tech and Oklahoma losing to Kansas State.

Governor in favor of voter ID

Gov. Pete Ricketts said Monday that Nebraskans should be required to show photographic identification before voting, even though he acknowledged there have been few cases of voter fraud in the state. “The time to try to correct your system is not after you discover there’s fraud,” he said.
