Absher Named as Murder Suspect, Dies in Custody

SHELBY — More information has been released as to the murder/ attempted suicide in Polk County last Tuesday.The Nebraska State Patrol identified the suspect as Wesley Absher, age 40. He traveled to the business near County Road T and 127th Road, south of Shelby.

GABEL REMEMBERED FOR HIS SMILE AND FAITH

Brian Gabel passed away rather quickly recently. He was well known in the county, having lived in Osceola, had his hog business in rural Shelby and attended church in Stromsburg.He was active in the county, attending many (if not all) of his high school kids’ events.

April 9, 2026 (Lincoln, Neb.)  — The suspect involved in a murder-suicide in Polk County earlier this week has died.Wesley Absher, 40, was pronounced deceased Wednesday afternoon at Bryan Health West Campus in Lincoln.The investigation remains ongoing.
