LINCOLN – While riding on horseback with family members Sunday, Governor Jim Pillen was bucked off a new horse and was injured. The Governor was transported to Columbus Community Hospital, and out of an abundance of caution, was then transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha. The Governor is expected to remain at UNMC for several days. The Governor is alert and is in continuous touch with his team.
On Monday a press conference took place. His injuries include a spleen injury, minor kidney injury, minor fracture in vertabrae in back and 7 rib fractures on left. The doctors inserted wire into his arteries near his spleen. He did well and is stable. The doctors were pleased with his overnight progress. He is trying to recruit medical students to stay in Nebraska while he is there.
He is expected to leave intensive care on Monday, and be hospitalized until at least Tuesday.
Gov. Pillen and his family are very appreciative of the thoughts and prayers given to them by Nebraskans and they wish all Nebraskans a very merry Christmas.
