Dennis was born on January 21, 1936 in Humphrey, NE to Joseph and Elizabeth (Dohmen) Jasper. He grew up in the Humphrey area and attended Humphrey Schools. He then began working in Columbus, where he met his future wife, Dixie Dittmer in the summer of 1958. They were united in marriage on October 18, 1958 at the United Methodist Church in Clarks. Less than a month later, Dennis enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Washington and Dixie then joined him there. Dennis was honorably discharged from theArmy in 1960. They made their home for a short period of time in Clarks and rural Silver Creek where he was a hired hand for Ted Wyman. In 1964 they moved to Stromsburg, where he worked at the Milk Plant for a short time, until getting a job with Servisoft, which later became known at Stromsburg Soft Water. Later Dennis would purchase Stromsburg Soft Water, where he owned and managed until his retirement. In 2021, Dennis moved to Midwest Covenant Homes where he seemed to be the life of the party. Walking pets, or playing cards and bingo is how he spent much of his time while there.
Dennis was a member of the Clarks and Stromsburg Fire and Rescue, Clarks Lion’s Club, Stromsburg Legion, and Clarks VFW. He enjoyed fishing, turtle hunting, playing cards, gambling and bumming a cigarette when Dixie wasn’t looking. He was always busy, from working side jobs, remodeling, painting houses, or tearing down old barns. He could also be found dressing chickens, out at Betty’s with her boys, or at his acreage scrapping metal out. His greatest love was getting to spend time with family, especially playing sheep head.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Darla (Rick) Boroviak of Stromsburg, Donnie (Wendi) Jasper of Stromsburg, Deadra Colson of Columbus, and Dean Jasper of David City; his siblings: Mary Ann Happ of Columbus, Betty Pilakowski of Platte Center, Dorothy Brandt of Humphrey and Joan (Warren) Weber Schwanebeck of Monroe; sister-in-law Betty Wyman of Osceola, and his loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
