Jonathon T. Scheerer-Hamm faces 10 counts of Possession of Child Pornography
CENTRAL CITY — A former High Plains boys basketball coach is out on $100,000 bail after posting the $10,000 bond.
Jonathon T. Scheerer-Hamm, 28, of Clarks, was arrested May 27 and faces 10 counts of possession of child pornography. A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. on July 16 at the Merrick County Courthouse.
According to court documents, Scheerer-Hamm is accused of receiving sexually explicit content from a 17-year-old female student through Snapchat and Instagram. Through the investigation, police found at least 493 separate files on his phone.
According to the charges, the female student sent videos to Scheerer-Hamm from February to May. Three of the charges indicate files created on May 13. Captain Jake Bauer with the Merrick County Sheriff’s Office began his investigation on May 14.
Scheerer-Hamm worked as a paraprofessional for High Plains Community Schools in the 7-12 building in Polk. High Plains Superintendent Jason Brown said that Scheerer-Hamm is no longer employed by the district.
According to court documents, Scheerer-Hamm is representing himself in the case. Jennifer D. Kearney is also listed as his attorney on some court documents. He faces 10 counts of Possession of Child Pornography, a Class 2A Felony, with each count carrying a maximum of 20 years in prison.
