Severt William Peterson Jr., age 88, of St. Paul, Nebraska, passed away April 4, 2026 at his home in St. Paul.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 123 9th Street, St. Paul, with Pastor Daniel Bear officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 8, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the church. Pallbearers will be Jordan Cline, Joshua Cline, Trevor Hartgerink, Cole Hartgerink, Wayne Hartgerink, Kam Holden, and Noah Kelley. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery Thursday, April 9 at 12:00 noon with Military Rites by Stromsburg American Legion. Lunch following at the Stromsburg Baptist Church.
Severt was born September 3, 1937 in Stromsburg, Nebraska to Severt William and Thelma Birdyne (Blazer) Peterson. He attended school in Stromsburg and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1955. Following high school Severt served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 and remained in the Reserves until 1961.
He was married to Shirley J. Holm on February 3, 1962 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Swede Home. To this union four children were born.
Severt was a rancher and farmer in rural Osceola when he retired October 13, 2022. He continued to enjoy spending time with his horses and cattle. He lived in various places including Central City, and Marquette before settling in St. Paul.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in St. Paul and also the Stromsburg Baptist Church where he was a Deacon for 8 years and was a substitute Sunday School teacher . He was also a member of the American Legion, NRA and Pheasants Forever.
He enjoyed hunting, especially coyotes, fishing, horses, carpentry work and spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. He was also a fan of Husker volleyball.
Survivors include his children Severt Peterson III of Omaha, Stacy (Wayne) Hartgerink of Milford, Sandee Peterson of Lincoln and Sara Cline of Central City; eight grandchildren, Jordan, Joshua and Sophia Cline, Trevor, Cole and Rachel Hartgerink, Mariah and Noah Kelley; four great grandchildren, Daxtun and Felicity Cline, Maverick and Millie Hartgerink, and one on the way; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Severt and Thelma Peterson; siblings Maurine Mansourian and Betty Lou Larson.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Baptist Church or the Stromsburg Baptist Church.
