Twelve Cross County FCCLA members are working to complete projects serving youth, families, and community organizations. Members have worked to identify areas of needs through researching topics and interviewing youth and family professionals. For 10 of the students, their efforts have led them to host a service drive asking community members to donate items they are no longer using. Please bring in all donations by December 17th.
Olive, Hadley, and Ashlyn are asking for no-longer needed newspapers to donate to York’s Adopt-A-Pet.
Lily and Olivia are hoping to collect 1,400 used grocery bags to make “plarn” that is later turned into a bed for those experiencing homelessness. It takes 700 bags to make 1 bed. They will donate their plarn Becky’s Beds of Bags who will finish making the bed.
Ellie, Revin, and Makayla are collecting personal hygiene products. Any products donated will be split between Boys Town and Royal Family Kids Camp. Ellie’s project is benefiting the youth attending Boys Town. Revin and Makayla are working to create welcome bags for children in foster care who attend Royal Family Kids Camp over the summer. Ella & Ava know the benefit of sports & that youth shouldn’t have to worry about the price to play. Consider donating lightly used sports equipment (volleyball knee pads, softball/baseball bats, etc.). Donations will be given to Boys & Girls Club of Lincoln/Lancaster County. Donations for these projects can be dropped off in the FCS room at Cross County or at the front office.
In addition to the service drive, two members have been driven to create family activity kits to disperse to Cross County families. Cortina and Saphira want to help families bond with each other and practice healthy communication. Some of our favorite family activities include watching movies, baking, and playing board games. We want to share these with you! They have created activity kits that include puzzles, cooking/baking activities, ornaments and decorating supplies, movie recommendations, dinner conversation topics, family communication tips and more! The kits will be available by December 17th. The kits will be delivered to students during the school day OR can be picked up in the FCS room on December 17th. Donations can be made with Miss Smith in the FCS room or in the front office.
