“Maximizing the Now Moments”

Body

I often listen to music online while working at my computer. Some time ago I tuned into a favorite radio station. The first song I heard a song was one I hadn’t heard before. Christian singer Jeremy Camp was singing “Keep Me in the Moment.”

“I’ve been thinking about time and where does it go

How can I stop my life from passing me by, I don’t know

I’ve been thinking about family, how it’s going so fast

Will I wake up one morning, just wishing that I could go back?”

The song ended. I listened to a few more songs on that station before I turned to another favorite station. Once again, the first song I heard was “Keep Me in the Moment.”

“Oh Lord keep me in the moment

Help me live with my eyes wide open

‘Cause I don’t wanna miss what You have for me

Oh Lord show me what matters

Throw away what I’m chasing after,

‘cause I don’t wanna miss what You have for me “

By that time I began to suspect God was wanting to teach me something that day about living one day at a time. I sensed He was using the music to remind me to trust HIS timing. To stop dragging my feet while looking at how things used to be or wish my life away dreaming of how I wish things were.

Someone has penned this warning: “Beware of Destination Addiction—a preoccupation with the idea that happiness is in the next place, the next job, and with the next partner. Until you give up the idea that happiness is somewhere else, it will never be where you are.”

Instead of wishing things were different, I need to be sure that I am where God wants me to be at the PRESENT time, doing what He has called me to do at THIS time.

Jeremy Camp concludes his song with these words. “Keep me in the moment, ‘cause I don’t wanna miss what You have for me.”

May that also be our prayer as we enter a new year.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, King James Version)

The life of faith is lived one

The life of faith is lived one day at a time, and it has to be lived - not always looked forward to as though the “real” living were around the next corner. It is today for which we are responsible. God still owns tomorrow. ~ Elisabeth Elliot

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3, English Standard Version)

Only one life, ’twill soon be past,

Only what’s done for Christ will last.
