Arnold J. Gabel, age 93, of York, Nebraska, passed away May 28, 2022 at his home in York.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in York with Rev. Ben Francisco officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Osceola Cemetery.

Arnold was born June 26, 1928 to John and Rose (Alt) Gabel near Shelby, Nebraska. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1946. He then helped on the family farm until he was drafted into the U.S. Army on September 18, 1952 and served until September 17, 1954. After returning from the service he began farming in Polk County until 1993.

In 1992 he was united in marriage to Ingrid Lemke Watts and they moved to York where he retired.

Arnold liked music, collecting records, arrowheads and ham radios. Allis Chalmers tractors held a special place in his heart and he enjoyed going to tractor shows with his family to admire them.

Survivors include his wife Ingrid of York; step-daughter Sabine (Jeffery) Russell of Columbus; step-granddaughter Heather Gabel of Osceola; three great grandchildren, Brenden, Halle and Brant Gabel; two brothers: Max (Rosalie) Gabel of Shelby; and Norman (Karen) Gabel of Osceola; one sister Eleanor (Richard) Eickmeier of Benedict, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Lorraine (Gabel) Klein-Harbor and Dolores Meister.
