Malfunctioning Appliance Leads to Kitchen Fire

STROMSBURG — Firefighters responded to a kitchen fire on Monday at the home southwest of Stromsburg near the old location of Durant.

Stromsburg Fire Chief Tim Pallas said that fire started because of a malfunctioning appliance in the kitchen of the home owned by Tom and Barb Rodene. He said fire crews contained the blaze to the kitchen.

Pallas said the scene was cleared by 1 p.m., adding that the home sustained smoke and water damage as a result of the fire. The only injury reported was to the family pet cockatoo.

Also responding to the fire were the Polk Fire Department and the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
