TEN YEARS AGO August 30, 2012
The Cross County Cubs started practice on August 7th. The Cubs are grades 3rd through 6th and coached by Dennis Koinzan, Brent Hollinger, Danny Seim, Greg Nuttelman, John Hild, Chad Pinkelman and Charles Noyd.
Swedish Festival royalty took part in the parade at the Nebraska State Fair. Tonniges Chevrolet graciously let the royalty borrow a truck for the parade. Royalty included King Bob Berggren, Queen Kendra Waller and attendants Lucy Berggren, Kole Crawford, Wyatt Hengelfelt and Tierney Schoch.
Alex Noyd, 6-year old son of Charles and Neeli Noyd, qualified for the national tractor pull in Mitchell, South Dakota after placing second at the Nebraska State Fair for his age division.
TWENTY YEARS AGO September 19, 2002
The new twenty-apartment assisted living addition at Midwest Covenant Home is coming along nicely. Workers are diligently trying to enclose the structure before cold weather moves in. The addition will make a total of twentynine assisted living apartments.
Tami Hanson and Chad Urwin, both of Lincoln, were united in marriage June 8th at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg. Parents of the couple are Herb and Sue Hanson of Stromsburg and Dick and Merna Urwin of Hastings.
Ralph and Irene Johnson of Stromsburg recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Kansas City with their five sons and their families.
The Cross County Cougars defense came through as they held Fullerton scoreless. The Cougars held the Warriors to 45 yards of total offense in the 32-0 win.

Great Plains Co-op employees are busy laying ties and rails near the elevator to increase the eleva tor’s capacity to move grain.
Asgrow Seed Company recently recognized Bill Beebe of Stromsburg for exceptional achievement during the 1991-92 sales year.
Dr. and Mrs. David Anderson of Tucson, Arizona are the par ents of a daughter Eden Noele born September 17th. The Vikings had a difficult time with the Shelby Huskies last Friday night, falling by a score of 34-0.
FORTY YEARS AGO September 23, 1982
Doug Wendell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Wendell of Stromsburg, was named a semifinalist for a national merit scholarship to be awarded in the spring of 1983. His name was one of 5000 selected out of 15,000 applicants.
Allegra Johnson of Stromsburg was given the 1982 “Loving Care Award” by the Nebraska Association of Homes for the Aging of which Midwest Covenant Home is a member. This award is given to homes statewide for outstanding service rendered in dedication, compassion and concern in the care of residents of a NAHA member facility.
Three former Stromsburg Viking athletes are members of the 1982 Wesleyan Plainsmen football team. They are Craig Beebe, Jim Johnson and Greg Peterson.
FIFTY YEARS AGO September 21, 1972
The Raymond Burke family has been named recipient of the Nebraska International Award presented annually by the Inter- national Farm Youth Exchange Alumni Association.
Rev. Roger A. Burke of Cambridge has accepted the call of the Stromsburg Baptist Church to become its pastor effective Novem ber 1st.
Kendra Carlson and Timm Waller were united in marriage on September 8th at the First Covenant Church in Lincoln.
Mr. and Mrs. Gust Granberg and Mr. and Mrs. Harlen Donel- son and Kenny Donelson were awarded the title of outstanding Conservation families of Polk County at a banquet in Omaha on September 11th.
SIXTY YEARS AGO September 20, 1962
In a hard fought, bitterly contested battle on the county fairgrounds field Friday night, the Viking ship came sailing home with a glorious 6-0 battle over arch-rival Osceola.
Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Swanson and Janet returned home Monday of last week from St. Paul, Minnesota where they had taken their daughter, Doris to enter Bethel College.
SEVENTY YEARS AGO September 18, 1952
Miss Patty Flunsakcr and Miss Peggy Nelson were hostesses at a miscellaneous shower at the Hunsaker home on Tuesday evening of last week, honoring Mrs. Lyle Kreis, a recent bride.
Miss Lois Hultgren, daughter of Mr. and Mrs K.F. Hultgren of Stromsburg, was one of thirty nurses to receive degrees from Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing at commencement exercises September 5th.
Delwin Rudeen of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania arrived Saturday evening for a two-week visit with his parents, Mr and Mrs Walter Rudeen and relatives.
EIGHTY YEARS AGO September 24, 1942
Patrick Larson, son of Eli Larson of Stromsburg, was married to Miss Frances Doherty of San Francisco on Wednesday, September 23. Patrick is employed with the Bethlehem Ship Build- ing Company in San Francisco.
Robert Anderson of Los Angeles, California arrived in Stromsburg Saturday evening and will spend some time with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Anderson until he is called into service Mrs. H F. Haverland returned to her home in Stromsburg last Wednesday after spending ten days with her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. George Pre- ece in Lincoln.
