ALBION — The Polk County Slammers went 2-1 at the Albion Invite, defeating Pierce 3-2
Against Pierce, the Slammers managed just six hits. Pierce tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning before Polk County would score the go-ahead run in the top half of the sixth. Sierra Boden went 2-for-3 and scored a run for the Slammers. Roberta Hines and Courtney Sunday had RBI hits.
Adrienne Waller scattered three hits across six innings, striking out three batters.
The Slammers rallied from 4 runs down to tie the game 4-4 in the fifth inning, but were unable to hold on as they fell to Centura-Central Valley 5-4.
The bats went cold as the Slammers only managed five hits in the game. Diamonds pitcher Allison Brandt kept Polk County on their heels and in check until the final frame.
The Slammers bounced back as their bats came alive for the 9-4 win over tournament host Boone Central/Newman Grove.
Sunday would go seven innings, giving up four hits while striking out eight batters. She threw 246 pitches on the day between the two games.
