    STROMSBURG - Cross County High's boys basketball team used a strong defensive effort and 10 points from Alex Noyd to take a 26-13 halftime lead en route to a 44-31 opening-night victory over visiting McCool Junction Thursday night.  Noyd hit a trey and a lay-up while Thatcher Hanson and James Elgin had buckets as the Cougars took a 9-2 lead midway through the opening period.
