Alice Jane Oquist, age 90, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed awayApril 26, 2026 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Memorial services will be Friday, May 8, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Swede Home with Pastors Evan and Hillary Christensen officiating. Inurnment will be in the Swede Home Cemetery.

Alice Jane was born April 6, 1936 to Herman Otto and Thelma Orissa (Leibee) Anderson in Stromsburg. She attended school in Stromsburg, graduating from Stromsburg High School in 1954. Through high school she worked for Leo Carlson at the Variety Store in Stromsburg, then worked at the Stromsburg Bank from 1954 until 1958.

OnApril 25, 1958 she was united in marriage to Stanley John Oquist at the Stromsburg Baptist Church. To this union two children were born. They lived and farmed in rural Polk County whereAlice Jane was a farm wife raising kids, cooking and helping with chores. They moved into Stromsburg in 1984. Alice Jane got her insurance license and sold insurance for Thrivent during the 1980’s and 90’s.

After she married Stanley she switched her church membership to Calvary Lutheran Church in Swede Home where she was active in Calvary Women and was a Sunday School superintendent. She was also involved with WELCA and served on the church board as treasurer.

Alice Jane enjoyed gardening while living on the farm, watching old westerns and reading the newspaper. She loved spending time at the family cabin or camping with the Krazy Kampers. She is especially know for her love of family and friends.

Alice Jane moved into Assisted Living before moving to the Midwest Covenant Home August 13, 2025 where she resided until her passing.

Survivors include her daughter Janice (Mark) Forsberg of Grand Island; five grandchildren: Aaron (Kim) Forsberg of Chadron, Melissa (Aaron) Determan of Lincoln, Gavin (Jenise) Forsberg of Lincoln, Megan Oquist of Lincoln and Andrew (Sierra) Oquist of Bemidji, MN; 10 great grandchildren: Peyton, Blakesley, Kallen, Jamison, Grace, Ryker, Nixon, Andie, Riley and Avery; sister-in-law Gloria Oquist of Osceola; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Stanley who passed away May 22, 2006; son Steven; sister Mary Ann (Paul) Moore; sisters-in-law Evelyn (Wilbur) Olson and Carolyn (Arnie) Ekstrand; and brother-in-law Severt Oquist.
