Carolyn Nordberg
Carolyn Ann Nordberg, age 89, of Lincoln, formerly of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away August 19, 2026 at Hillcrest Firethorn Nursing Home in Lincoln.
Memorial services will be held Thursday,August 27, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Hillary Christensen officiating. Pianist will be Sue Lehn. Musical selections will be “Beautiful Savior”, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”, and “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee.” Inurnment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Carolyn was born March 30, 1937 at Craig, Nebraska to Kenneth F. Kriebel and Hildreth (Monson) Kriebel. She was baptized at Swaburg Lutheran Church in Uehling, Nebraska. She attended Sunday school at Emmanuel Lutheran, Tekamah and confirmed her faith there in 1950.
After eight years at District 15 elementary school in rural Burt County, Carolyn attended Tekamah High School, graduating in 1954. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Midland Lutheran College in 1958, with majors in mathematics and education.
Carolyn was united in marriage to Robert Nordberg in 1957. To this union two children were born.
From 1965 to 1977, Carolyn worked as media specialist and mathematics teacher in the Stromsburg Public Schools. After retirement, she continued her interest in math by tutoring for many years. She subscribed to the Proverb, “He who teaches children learns more than they do.”
Carolyn’s interest in books and libraries led to volunteering and promoting the city library. She served on the finance and building committee for the new library, which was completed in 2001. She was a long time member and secretary to the Stromsburg Library Foundation.
She was a member of Stromsburg woman’s Civic Improvement Club, Chapter AR P.E.O, and Aerobic Aires. Carolyn also volunteered in various other community activities, such as Grandma’s Kitchen/Taste of Sweden and other Swedish Festival attractions, National Day of Prayer committee, Busy Wheels driver, Community Improvement Committee, and served as a judge for Nebraska Community Improvement.
As a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg she was the church librarian, sang in the choir, and served twelve years on the church council. Beginning in June 2008, she came out of retirement to work as church secretary at Salem Lutheran for 10 years.
Carolyn became passionate about organ donation when her grandson, Matthew, received a life saving liver transplant. She even created a website in 1998 to support organ donation. Hepatoblastomasurvivor. com Her leisure activities included reading, travel, walking and exercising, writing (especially humorous poems), genealogy, bridge, board and word games and puzzles.
Survivors include her daughter Lynn (Dave) Goering of Lincoln, grandson Matthew Goering of Lincoln; sister Elaine Chamberlain of Tekamah; nephew Keith (Debbie) Chamberlain of Tekamah; niece Karen Chamberlain of Omaha; and a host of cherished friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her son Steve; her parents; and brotherin-law Delmar Chamberlain. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Live On Nebraska, Salem Lutheran Church or Stromsburg Library.
