It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Peggy Thomas on November 8, 2023. She lost her short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and associated complications. Peggy was born March 6, 1954; the eldest child born to Oscar (Milton) Thomas Jr and Margy Marie Lindstrom Thomas in Osceola, NE where she lived for the first five years of her life. Her grandparents were Oscar and Alice (Olson) Thomas Sr and Paul and Gladys (Clark) Lindstrom. In 1960, the Thomas family moved to Phoenix for better opportunities and warmer weather.
While attending Maryvale high school, Peggy was employed by Mountain Bell (Qwest) where worked for 32 years. She was a member of CWA 7019 and held a variety of positions within the union. While working, she went on to further her formal education, obtaining her doctorate degree in Psychology.
After her ‘retirement’ she went to work as an usher at the Glendale Arena. Then began ticket sales at Talking Stick/Footprint arena, which lead to another 20 year career with the Arizona Diamondbacks. She was a dedicated fan, worked in ticket sales and was employee of the month. Peggy was also a loyal fan of Phoenix Mercury women’s basketball team. Throughout Peggy’s life journey, she met and made many friends and colleagues in which she treasured each relationship.
She is survived by her wife, Susan Smith Thomas, stepson Jared Smith (Sophie) of Canada, her mother: Margy Lindstrom Thomas and siblings: Mark Thomas, Amy Thomas Heaton and Sonja Thomas Walling along with one uncle and aunt; Thomas and Patsy Lindstrom. Peggy worked tirelessly as the family historian for both maternal and paternal families tracking and updating the family movements. This helped to gather all her cousins together every 3 years throughout the country.
Included in their family are two ‘chosen’ families they cherish as ‘sons and daughters’: Phillip and Angela and family, and Jorge and Eliza and family. Peggy is preceded in death by her father, grandparents, a nephew and 12 aunts and uncles.
Her Celebration of Life was held December 30th at First Congregation United Church in Phoenix.
