Russell Lemoine O’Hara, age 99, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away May 14, 2026 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 15, 2026 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Dubas Funeral Home in Stromsburg. No services will be held at this time. A private interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.

Russell Lemoine O’Hara was born January 17, 1927 to Ralph and Mabel (Johnson) O’Hara at their home near Hammond, Minnesota.

He was married to Barbara Jean Polson on August 5, 1953. To this union they had 3 children, Jonathan, Nancy and Janet. He farmed with his parents until he attended Northwestern College in Minneapolis, Minnesota, becoming a Pastor. He served 5 different churches in his career as a pastor, 2 rural churches in Minnesota, 1 nearAmery, Wisconsin. The family moved to Stromsburg, Nebraska where he served 7 years at the Evangelical Free Church and then the Community Church in Bennett. He served as a chaplain at the Nebraska Women’s prison in York, Nebraska and at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg before retiring at the age of 70.

He and Barb enjoyed years of volunteering with RVICS. They lived in Bibleville many winters and served at a retirement park church nearby until the age of 81. The family had many vacations traveling with a camper across the US seeing 48 states. He had a sense of adventure his entire life which never ended until he left his home in Stromsburg and became a resident at the Midwest Covenant Home. He touched many lives throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Barb of 62 years; sister Phyliss (Edwin) Herman; brother-in-law Bill Polson.

Survivors include his children: Jon (Beth) O’Hara of Valparaiso, IN, Nancy (Randy) Stoll of York, Janet (Bob) Sawyer of Stromsburg; 10 grandchildren: Patrick (Audrey) O’Hara, Evan (Riza) O’Hara, Kevin (Ziona) O’Hara, Heidi (Joe) Seaborn, Mary (Robert) Fogler, Ryan (Tara) Moore, Jacob Moore (fiance Eva), Laura (Nick) Guerrier, Kari Sawyer and Jason (Jenetta) Sawyer; 20 great grandchildren; sister Shirley of Plainview, IN; and a host of many nieces, nephews and friends.
