May 26th, 1947 – September 7th, 2025 Steven Carl McBeth, 78, of Lincoln Nebraska, passed away peacefully on September 7th, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Steve was born in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, to Neal and Corlyss (Swanson) McBeth. The middle of three children, Steve grew up on the family farm just outside of Stromsburg, Nebraska. In 1965, he graduated from Stromsburg High School where he lettered in football and basketball, as well earning the distinction of class valedictorian. He attended the University of Nebraska (Lincoln) where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree in 1970.
Shortly before graduating from college, Steve enlisted into the U.S. Army Reserve, where he served honorably from April 1970 to October of 1975.
Steve, and his family, lived briefly in Denver, CO, Beatrice, NE and Huron, SD before settling down in Lincoln, in 1980. He worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads as a civil engineer, where he oversaw highway and bridge projects throughout Nebraska. After nearly 30 years of working for the state, Steve chose to enter retirement in April of 2009.
Steve married Karen Lee on July 7th, 1996. Steve had a strong passion for gardening and landscaping. While retired, he earned his Master Gardener certification from UNL. He supported UNL athletics and attended numerous Cornhusker football and baseball games. Steve loved spending hours building and designing small, personal construction projects at his in-home shop. Steve was also a proud member of First Plymouth Congregational Church.
Steve is survived by his sons Cory (Lisa) and Brian; stepdaughters Shelli (Tim) Pfab and Kerry (Justin) Dworak; grandchildren Olivia, Ian, Natalie, Veda and Satchel; six beloved step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren, with two more on the way; cherished nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister Cynthia Lamoree, and brother Ted.
Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, September 19, 2025, at First Plymouth Congregational Church, 2000 D Street, Lincoln, NE. Lunch reception to follow.
