Devotional Reflections by Caroline Russell

Doubt. Fear.Anxiety. I dare say that all of us have experienced those emotions. Whether we have been celebrating birthdays for decades or are adjusting to our first time at preschool; whether we are a top earner at a multi-million- dollar company or struggle each month to make ends meet; whether we have a PHD from a prestigious university or are a product of the school of hard knocks.

As each of us encounters the struggles life throws our way, I pray that the prayer of the psalmist of old will also be our prayer.

“Lord, when doubts fill my mind, when my heart is in turmoil, quiet me and give me RENEWED HOPE and cheer.”

(Psalm 94:19, Living Bible) Last week when I was fretting about the future, the person with whom I had been talking paused for a minute before quoting to me these words from God’s Word.

“DO NOT BE ANXIOUS about anything, but IN EVERYTHING by PRAYER and supplication WITH THANKSGIVING let your requests be made known to God.

And the PEACE of God, which surpasses all understanding, will GUARDYOUR HEARTS and your minds IN CHRIST JESUS.” (Philippians 4:6-7, English Standard Version) I pray that each of us will experience God’s peace beyond our wildest expectations as we place our trust in Him.

<> <> <> The best antidote for anxiety is frequent meditation upon God’s goodness, power and sufficiency... Nothing is too big and nothing is too little to spread before and cast upon the Lord.—A.W. Pink <> <> <> It is only when we want to take our lives out of the Father’s hands and have them under our own control that we find ourselves gripped with anxiety. The secret of freedom from anxiety is freedom from ourselves and abandonment of our own plans. But that spirit emerges in our lives only when our minds are filled with the knowledge that our Father can be trusted implicitly to supply everything we need. —Sinclair Ferguson <> <> <> Trust the past to God’s mercy, the present to God’s love and the future to God’s providence.
