Grace Notes

Several years ago, I received a plaque on which was written the phrase “All hearts go home for Christmas.” I must confess that the message didn’t really resonate with me then.

It Wasn’t His Child

Our sermon on Sunday was on Joseph and his significance to the Christmas story. You can see the service on YouTube if you like. This reminded me of the song “It Wasn’t His Child” and my thoughts and feelings when I first heard this song.

Christmas Reflections

I told my family that I was going write about my favorite Christmas movie this week. They started guessing a lot of great movie choices. They guessed classics like “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Elf,” and “Home Alone.” My son jokingly guessed “Die Hard.” All are great movies.

Music Paints a Picture

I love listening to music in the car while I drive. It amazes me how much music can paint a picture or change a mood. You may not have even noticed it. Think back to your favorite movie. Think of climatic scene. Was it the words that made you feel the way it did, or was it the music?

In Nebraska, the crops we grow, livestock we raise, goods we manufacture, and innovations we develop make an impact far beyond our borders. Nebraskans have long known that. Increasingly, the world does too. Growing Nebraska’s international presence has been a pillar of my administration.

New Coach, New Governor, New U.S. Senator

Unless you’ve been out of the country or living off the grid in a cave, you probably know by now that the University of Nebraska Lincoln football team has a new head coach, Matt Rhule, who is making more money than is humanly possible to spend.

You Can Be a Hero; All You Have to do is Learn CPR

We are familiar with the scene on television and movies: a person clutches their chest and drops to the ground, unconscious. Another character starts chest compressions and help is summoned.

Christmas Reflections

Now that it’s December, Christmas will be here before we know it. It’s a busy time of year. I always looked forward to it as a kid and that hasn’t changed. But the reasons I look forward to it have.
