Cross County Boys Beat Wood River to Open Tourney

    WOOD RIVER – Leading only 24-23 at halftime, the Cross County boys basketball team exploded offensively in the third period and raced to a 63-31 victory over host Wood River in first-round play of the Runza Christmas tourney Saturday.

    Using a half-court zone press and playing aggressively on defense, the Cougars held the host Eagles to just eight second-half points while scoring 39 of their own.
