Bulldogs Easily Defeat The Longhorns

In a game that after the first couple minutes, you could see that the Bulldogs were going to win the game, it was just a matter of by how much, the Dawgs defeated the Dorchester Longhorns 62-17. The Dawgs defense was solid as they allowed no more than 5 points in a quarter.

A basket by Wyatt Urban and an offensive putback from Carter Girard put the Dawgs up 4-0, and after a Longhorn bucket, Isaiah Zelasney hit a field goal and Pierce Branting a three pointer and a 9-2 lead. The Longhorns would hit a three pointer to make it 9-5, but wouldn’t score again in the quarter as the defense went to work as they would score on back to back steals and layups from Zelasney and Branting. Baskets by Kale Gustafson and Girard closed out the quarter as the Bulldogs held a 17-5 lead entering the second quarter.

The Bulldogs started the quarter on a 8-0 run which capped a 16-0 run for them that put the Dawgs up 25-5. Zelasney had another steal and layup, Gus hit two field goals and a free throw and Urban a free throw. A three pointer by Branting and a Ryan Pheak bucket made it 30-7, and baskets by Creighton Sterup and Caleb Peterson ended the half with a 34-9 Dawg lead.

Another 8-0 run started the second half with Zelasney, Sterup, Pheak, on a give and go with Urban, and Urban all hitting field goals, and a 42-9 lead. A 11-0 run would put the Bulldogs up 53-11, with Zelasney hitting a field goal, Branting and Gus scoring on back to back old fashion three point plays, and the big man Girard nailing a three pointer. They held a 53-13 lead with 8 minutes to go.

The Dawgs had their lowest scoring total of the game in the fourth quarter as they scored 9 points, with Girard, Hayden Lavaley, and Pheak hitting field goals, and Sterup, Matt DeMers, and Pheak all hitting a free throw each.

Branting paced the Dawgs with 11 points, 3 steals, and a blocked shot, while Gus and Zelasney chipped in with 10 points each. Gus added 3 rebounds and 2 steals, and Zelasney 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots. Girard had 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and a blocked shot, with Urban getting 4 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a blocked shot, Pheak 3 steals, Lavaley 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots, and Sterup 2 steals.
