New Daycare Opens in Stromsburg

STROMSBURG — Stromsburg is getting a new daycare. The Stromsburg Planning Commission unanimously voted on Wednesday in favor of approving a special use permit to allow TNT Kids Childcare to open at 302 E. 4th St. The property is currently zoned residential, but was previously a doctor’s office.

Cross County robotics team 5155A competed in World competition in Dallas last week. The team consisted of Brett Williams, Dane Holtzen, and Andrew Dubas led by their sponsor Ben Hackett. They were off to a great start at the tournament winning 3-1.

Cross County Student Leaders Excel at FCCLA Conference

Cross County FCCLA excelled in demonstrating student leadership and service during the Nebraska FCCLA state conference. Cross County FCCLA came home with 18 national qualifiers, a state peer education officer, 3 FCS knowledge test medalists, a quiz bowl championship, and 2 chapter awards.

Thirty-one past Swedish Festival Kings and Queens gathered for their annual business meeting Tuesday, April 18th in the Viking Center. Officers are president Dennis Koinzan, secretary Pam Johnson, and treasurer Bob Berggren.

Stromsburg EMS Bike Rodeo

The Stromsburg EMS is having a bike rodeo on Saturday, May 6 from 9-11 a.m. at the fire barn. There will be bike and helmet inspection, food and drawings for prizes. Prizes will include four bikes! This event is free and all bike riders are welcome (no age restrictions).

Employee Shortage Hits Nebraska

Nebraska is full of hard-working people, and generally our unemployment rate is low. However lately nationwide there is an employee shortage. There are more jobs than there are workers. The baby boomers are retiring (or wanting to), and that takes a large portion of the working people.

4-H Family Receives Award

In observance of the Week of the Volunteer, Nebraska 4-H is proud to celebrate some of the 2023 Nebraska 4-H Volunteer Award Winners. The Ray and Betty Vrbka family is receiving the Multi-Generation Family of Volunteers Award.
