Hughes Hits Ground Running

LINCOLN — The new legislative session kicked off last week and newly elected State Senator Jana Hughes is hitting the ground running. Hughes joined the other 48 senators on Wednesday, Jan. 4 for the first day of the session. The first five days saw more than 250 bills introduced.

Council Discusses Old High School

STROMSBURG — The Stromsburg City Council approved a special use permit on the Old High School Building. The council gave its approval on Monday, clearing the way for Bob Berggren and Russell Cleland to continue renovations at the property.

School Board OKs Teacher Contracts

STROMSBURG — An agreement has been met. The Cross County Board of Education voted on Monday to accept the 2023-2024 teacher contract. The board unanimously approved the agreement. Board President Kurt Moore said that negotiations wrapped up last month.

Cougar Fans Travel for Rivalry Game with Bulldogs

Sheriff Deputies Receive Promotions

Two Polk County Sheriffs Deputies recently were promoted. Eric Allen (left) was promoted to Chief Deputy and Jarred Norseen was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Allen has served for 15 years and Norseen for 16 years, currently working on night shift.

Cross County Board of Education held their annual organizational meeting January 9th at 4:00 p.m. Kurt Moore was elected President, Quinn Peterson-Vice President, Cindy Nyberg- Secretary, and Jason Fellows- Treasurer.

In the fall of 1886 the railroad announced that it will “cut back seventy-five feet of the bank” and will move the expanded depot to the north side of the tracks. This is the first we knew that the depot had been on the south side or that there was that much embankment on the north.
