STROMSBURG – The softball game had just finished, but the Berggren family – Jeff, Amanda and Carter – were just as diligent at the “Where’s Waldo?” game of finding a missing yellow sphere hit into some deep grass by junior center fielder Mady Berggren (pictured at right).

Slammers Dominate Over the Weekend

ALBION — The Polk County Slammers showed their dominance over the weekend, picking up three wins to take first at the Boone Central Invite.The Slammers opened the day with a 10-1 win over Pierce, defeated Centura 9-3 before topping Boone Central 8-5.

Lady Cougars Open Season With Win

STROMSBURG — Cross County opened the 2024 volleyball season with a home win over Fullerton.The Cougars cruised to a threeset victory, topping the Warriors 26-24, 25-8, 25-21.“Our goal is always serve and pass wins games,” Cross County coach Emmie Noyd said. “We take that on ourselves.

Turnovers Mar Stout First-Half Defensive Effort in Cougar Loss

BATTLE CREEK – For 22 minutes, a young Cross County football team battled a state-ranked Battle Creek lineup to a standstill with a bend-but-not-break defense that finally broke just before halftime to allow the host Braves to lead 7-0 at the half.

Slammers Return Talent & Move Up to Class B

STROMSBURG – Changes abound for the Polk County Slammers softball team, with a move up to the Class B division and a new battery on tap, but a host of returning standouts give co-head coaches Johanna Nielsen and Macy Jones a lot of offensive punch this fall.

All-Star Basketball at Centennial Features 5 Locals

UTICA - Twenty players from 16 schools were selected and available to play in the Centennial boys’all-star game. Three of those selected were James Elgin, Alex Noyd and Ashton Seim. Coach Jimmy Blex was selected as an assistant coach. They were all on team red.

Summer Slammers Veteran Farewell Tour Going Strong

BROKEN BOW – Justin Sunday may not miss the late-night weekend return trips once the 2024 summer softball season ends in two weeks. But thinking about his team’s recent success – along with the privilege of coaching his kids – caused a poignant pause as he considered the long but successful journey.
