Area teams gear-up for week 4 football

NO. 2 COUGARS LOOK TO STAY UNBEATEN As area high school football teams prepare for the fourth week of the season, Class D-1 No. 2 Cross County is the only county school to remain unbeaten. The Cougars (3-0) are averaging 64 points per contest and have scored over 70 points in the last two weeks.

No. 9 Cougars sweep Bulldogs, Mustangs

STROMSBURG — Cross County walked away with two more wins on Tuesday, defeating Osceola and McCool Junction, both in straight sets. The Class C-2 No. 9 Cougars (6-0) made quick work of the Bulldogs, 25-13, 25-5.  Earlier in the night, the Cougars easily got by the Mustangs, 25-8, 25-14.

Slammers split with Gothenburg, Kearney Catholic

GOTHENBURG — Polk County split games Tuesday, falling 13-1 to Gothenburg before bouncing back for a 10-8 come-from-behind win over Kearney Catholic. The Slammers were held to just four hits in the three-inning loss to the Swedes. Polk County batters struck out six times in the contest.

No. 9 Cougars stampede over Bison

CENTRAL CITY — Cross County stayed on a roll on Thursday, defeating Central City in straight sets. The Cougars topped the Bison 25-22, 25-12, 25-15 to stay undefeated on the season. Bren Lemburg led the Cross County attack with nine kills, while Lilly Peterson added seven kills.

Polk County slams 11 hits in win over Ord

STROMSBURG — The Polk County offense came alive against Ord on Thursday, The Slammers (12-4) scored three runs in the first inning and added two insurance runs in the third to take control of the Chanticleers (1-9), beating them 11-3 in five innings. The Slammers slugged out 11 hits in the game.

Cougar volleyball gets win over No. 6 Eagles

BRUNING — Cross County stayed unbeaten with a 3-1 road win over Class D-1 No. 6 Bruning-Davenport/Shickley Tuesday night. The Cougars (3-0) took a two set lead, 25-23, 28-26, before the Eagles (5-2) bounced back to take the third set, 25-14.

Slammers Shut Out Titans

GENOA — Polk County Slammers shut out Twin River on Tuesday, defeating the Titans 10-0 in 4 innings. The Slammers belted out 11 hits as they rode hot bats, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Polk County added three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth to close out the contest.

No. 2 Cougars top Raiders 74-16

STROMSBURG — Cross County continued its winning ways Friday night, scoring early and often as the Cougars defeated Brownell Talbot 74-16. The Class D-1 No. 2 Cougars (2-0) set up camp in the end zone for most of the opening quarter taking a commanding 50-8 lead.
