Senate Solutions to Secure Our Southern Border

We are living in the worst border crisis on record. It is a humanitarian and security crisis. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported yet another record with 269,735 encounters at the southern border last month.

HPC FFA Livestock Judging

OLD GRESHAM SCHOOL, DAYS ARE NUMBERED

Currently the Gresham Community Club owns the old Gresham school. The club met in July to discuss options for the school. When the Gresham school closed in 1986, the Centennial School donated the 1916 building and gym along with two residences to the Gresham Community Club.

Gresham Public Library presents Movie Night on Saturday, July 22nd. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., movie begins at 7 p.m at the library. Featured movie is Addams Family 2. Popcorn will be provided, chairs and blankets are welcome, bring a bottled non-alcoholic beverage.

Employee Shortage Hits Nebraska

Nebraska is full of hard-working people, and generally our unemployment rate is low. However lately nationwide there is an employee shortage. There are more jobs than there are workers. The baby boomers are retiring (or wanting to), and that takes a large portion of the working people.

PCN Sports, Website Earn Awards

LINCOLN — The Polk County News won multiple awards over the weekend in this year’s Nebraska Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest. The PCN staff won a first place award for sports page for division C and first place award for the PCN website, www.polkcountynews.net, for divisions C and D.

Legion Birthday Dinner Held in Gresham

The Gresham American Legion Auxiliary honored Shirley Richter recently for 60 years of continuous membership. Also recognized was Carla Schumacher for 35 years of membership. The Auxiliary hosted a Birthday dinner for the American Legion members and the Sons of the Legion at the Dey Warehouse.

St Peter Lutheran Church Council will meet on Thursday, April 13, at 8 p.m.. Quarterly voters meeting will be Sunday, April 16, at 8 p.m. Gresham Library April Story Hour will be Saturday, April 15, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and will feature “Sheep in a Jeep.” Come and join in the fun.

There will be no school at Centennial on Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10. Gresham American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at the Gresham Park for preschool through 3rd grade. There will be prizes, candy and the Easter Bunny, rain or shine.
