Storm opens season with pair of wins

POLK — High Plains opened the volleyball season on Thursday with a pair of wins against East Butler and Giltner. The Storm defeated the Tigers 25-20, 25-22 in the first match. Senior Hailey Lindburg finished the East Butler match with 10 kills. Senior Kenzie Wruble added 7 kills.

Slammers fall to Wildcats, 7-5

STROMSBURG — The Polk County Slammers dropped Tuesday's match-up to St. Paul Wildcats 7-5. The Slammers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the Wildcats responded with a 6 run third inning to take control of the game. Junior Emma Recker went 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI.

Slammers 2-1 at Wisner Invite

WISNER — The Polk County Slammers went 2-1 at the Wisner Invite over the weekend. The Slammers opened play with a 9-0 win over Logan View/ Scribner-Snyder on Saturday. Courtney Sunday scattered 4 hits across 5 innings, striking out 4 batters to get the win.

Storm Fall 58-16, No Raining on Eagles Homecoming Game

BRUNING — High Plains could not play spoiler to Bruning- Davenport/Shickley’s Homecoming game Friday to open the season, falling 58-18. The Storm managed just 217 yards of total offense in the game, with 172 yards coming on the ground. Marino finished with 23 yards on 6 carries.

Storm Open Season Thursday at Home

POLK — The High Plains volleyball team opens the season Thursday at home with a pair of matches against East Butler and Giltner. The East Butler match starts at 5:30 p.m. and the Giltner match will follow at 7:30 p.m.

New Faces Stepping-Up to Lead Storm

POLK — If football fans check the weather forecast they might notice a Storm on the horizon. When High Plains takes the football field Friday look for a stronger, quicker team out there. Storm coach Greg Wood said that his squad had a busy off-season preparing them for the upcoming year.

Slammers Open Season with wins

LINCOLN — The Polk County Slammers won four games in a three-day stretch to start the season, going unbeaten at the Freeman Invite in Lincoln Saturday after an opening-night win Thursday over Highway 91.

HPC Little Cheer Camp Returns for 7th Year

CLARKS —The 7th annual HPC Little Cheer Camp returns Saturday, Sept. 24 at the High Plains football field in Clarks. The clinic is from 10-11 a.m. and is open to any boy or girl in preschool to 6th grade. Attendees will learn a cheer that will be performed at the Sept.
