Sharing sad news can be difficult but doing so may benefit others.

A dear niece (residing elsewhere) recently advised of her husband -- along with several others returning from a church mission trip -- having been diagnosed with COVID and/or influenza! (He is among those battling BOTH, and currently extremely fatigued.)

By having been required to meet with a super busy contractor regarding extensive details with their important home project, she had to forego this mission trip, which in this case, might have prevented her from becoming another patient.

This news, along with recently reported COVID cases in Nebraska and concerns for COVID variants, remind us of not yet being “out of the COVID woods.” And now we have added concerns pertaining to a new school year with more activities eventually moving indoors due to seasonal weather changes.

Thankfully, caring professionals stress the value of COVID testing, vaccines, boosters, frequent (and thorough) hand sanitation and masking.

Sadly, those masks became a source of contention, with some arguing “they do NO good,” although masks have LONG been a mainstay within surgical and medical arenas.

Yes, the masks can be cumbersome or inconvenient, but surely far less than a ventilator, etc. And we have been advised that we can unknowingly have -- and spread -- COVID.

With all due respect, we also find that inconsistent policies involving COVID procedures and mask usage tend to contribute to increased tensions.

Hopefully, TEAM USA can pull together in a GENUINELY COOPERATIVE EFFORT to SHUT DOWN this horrific COVID roller coaster!

‘Til next week, stay safe and keep well, as we extend best wishes to the administration, school board, faculty, staff and -- most of all -- to our super students, for a safe, happy and successful school year! GO BULLDOGS!”
