Shelby Luettel of Gresham, daughter of Tom and Judi Luettel was named to the Dean’s List at Bryan LGH College of Health Sciences.
Elaine Tonniges returned home on Monday from a trip to California. She was accompanied by her son and his wife, Tom and Jane Tonniges of Omaha. While there, they visited Tim and Nancy Bond.

Keith and Kristine (Bergmeier) Richert of rural Ulysses are pleased to announce the birth and adoption of a son, Zachary Thom as, bom February 3rd. Grand parents are Rodney and Jeanine Bergmeier of Wilber and Armand and Zoe Richert of Gresham.
The Gresham Livestock 4-H Club organizational meeting will be held Sunday, February 17th. Pizza will be served at 6:00 with the meeting to follow. Please RSVP to Gerry George or Lorrie Klepper.
Saturday evening, heavy snow left the area with white-out conditions and a loss of electricity. Power in Gresham was off approximately sixteen hours with power out of town off even longer at approximately twenty hours. Adding to what remained of the eight to ten inches we received two weeks ago, left travel nearly impossible.

Lloyd and Lucille Walford of Stromsburg will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, February 23 with an open house at the Viking Center in Stromsburg.
Pvt. Tracey E. Kramer has completed the equipment records and parts specialist course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Virginia. She is the daughter of Larry D. and Sandra E. Kramer of Gresham.
The Rising City Terriors used a 23 point fourth quarter effort to come from behind and take home a 62-57 victory over the Benedict Eagles on February 7th.

Carl and Sherri Oquist are celebrating their first anniversary as owners of the Bighorn Lounge and in appreciation of your patronage, they are offering a dollar off any meal with a coupon. Gresham ’s Blackbirds upset Stromsburg 65-59 in a double overtime, nonconference thriller. Doug Tonniges led the Blackbirds with 26 points, followed by Kent Tonniges with 14, Dale Rhodes scored 10 and Todd Epke finished with eight.

About 30 interested parties from this area met to discuss the feasibility of a commercial feed lot program in the local area The meeting was organized by John Grasmick of the Gresham State Bank and Terry Tonniges of Purina Feeds.
A number of friends gathered at the Bob Tonniges home for a surprise house warming. The Tonniges family recently moved into their new home at the west edge of town.

The G L. Chefs met February 3 at the home of Roger Keil. Greg Richter was elected president, Roger Keil, vice-president; Peggy Noble, treasurer; Tim Noble, news reporter.
York County’s smallest, yet the most adequately staffed high school with one teacher for an average of two and one-ninth pupils, is closing at the end of the current year. Patrons of the Thayer school district decided at a public meeting to gracefully bow out of the high school education picture when the 1961-62 high school enrollment dropped to nine pupils.
The Presbyterian Church will join the Methodist Church and the Village of Gresham in the celebration of the 75th anniversary this year. May 6th is the date set for all day observance of this occasion.

Friends gathered to give the Robert Heinekes a house warming on Thursday evening. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Richard George, Rolland and Tom George, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Scheele and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Tonniges, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Rafert and family, Mr Elmer Tuepker, Lois Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Ehlers and family.
Numerous meetings have been held with rural districts recently to discuss the redistrictmg program. The film “Schoolhouse In The Red” has been shown to explain the program.
