Kellie Rosenkranz of Stromsburg graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Chadron State College.
Wade Pelc was named honorable mention all conference by the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Wade played football for Truman State University.
TWENTY YEARS AGO

Amanda Urkoski and Jeffrey Berggren, both of Fremont, were united in marriage on September 8, 2001. Parents of the couple are Donald and Susan Urkoski of Silver Creek and Ryan and Debra Berggren of Stromsburg.
December 20th the Stromsburg varsity basketball teams hosted Giltner and sent the visiting teams home with losses. The Viking boys dominated in their 60-43 win, while the Lady Vikings also had an easy 56-40 victory. Toby Ball had a game high 23 points, Chance McLean with 15 and Tyler Moore scored 12. The Lady Vikings hit five three pointers in their win. Mallory Berggren and Dani Clifton hit two apiece and Kristin Papik added the other.

The annual Scout Pinewood Derby was held with record participation. Winners were Kevin Lindburg, 1st place; Jeremiah Galusha, 2nd place; Geoffrey Johnson, 3rd place.
The Moyer & McCumber Insurance Agency, Inc, and McCumber Realty have undergone a merger of operations and have assumed the name Polk County Associates.
On January 7, the Stromsburg Vikings lost to a powerful C-l Geneva team, 59-76.
The Stromsburg/Osceola wrestling team won first place in the twelve team St. Edward Invitational.
FORTY YEARS AGO
January 12, 1982
A search party consisting of more than 35 people was formed to help locate Debbie Runyan and Roxie Beguin. It had stormed and the car they were driving be came stuck in a snow bank. The search party located the missing girls near Gresham.
Action begins at 5 o’clock Monday afternoon in Goldenrod Conference girls basketball when the nine schools converge on Stromsburg to determine the conference championship.
United Methodist Women of Stromsburg will hold one of their annual observances, the Call to Prayer and Self Denial at 1:30 p.m. Major events of the observance include the Quiet Day and descriptions of the mission projects for which a special offering is given.

January 20, 1972
The Vikings captured second place in the Stromsburg Invitational Wrestling Tourney. A total of twelve teams competed.
Karen Donelson and JoAnne Klein have been accepted to attend the Grand Island School of Business.
Tony Hullinger captured third place in the Hereford Steer division at the Western Livestock Show in Denver.
Cadet 4th Class Joe P. Gonnerman of the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester.
SIXTY YEARS AGO
January 18, 1962
Marvin “Whitey” Gustafson was seriously injured in a 90-foot fall from atop an elevator under construction at Dix, Nebraska Whitey suffered from a fractured pelvis.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Burke are the parents of an eleven pound seven ounce girl born January 11.
The Stromsburg Volunteer Firemen were called to the Bill Wilcox farm northwest of town to put out a fire in the south wall of the house alongside the chimney.
SEVENTY YEARS AGO
January 17, 1952
The Stromsburg High School boys basketball team defeated Gresham 44-39. Stromsburg’s Nordberg and Gresham’s Michener were high scorers with twelve points each.
Victor Anderson, 88, passed away January 14 at the Immanuel Deaconess Home in Omaha. He is survived by his wife and eight children. He was born on March 22, 1865 in Satra of Gestrick lan, Sweden.
Disc hits this week are “Down Yonder” by Freddy Martin, “Cold, Cold Heart” by the Fontane Sis ters and “Because of You” by Guy Lombardo.
EIGHTY YEARS AGO
January 15, 1942
A five pound, 12 ounce son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Everett Noyd on January 12.
W.H. Fetters, Ruth Larson, Mrs. Tucker and Mrs Earl Steever had an experience with gas that they will not care to repeat! The Fetters’ home is heated by gas and due to loose bricks in the chimney, the fumes could not escape. Mr. Fetters and Mrs. Tucker became unconscious and were taken to the hospital.
