Senior Center activities included exercise group on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 9 a.m. and Bingo on Fridays at 1:15 p.m. The senior center birthday and anniversary party was held Friday December 30th. New chairs for the dining room were to be on the agenda of the business meeting on January 3rd.

The Stromsburg Library Foundation has purchased a bench to be placed by the entrance of the new library building. Children of the Library Board were pictured sitting on the bench.
The Stromsburg High School cheerleaders hosted a cheer/ dance clinic on January 2nd. The theme of the clinic was “Bring It On. One Last Time” Grades K-7 participated and performed at two home basketball games.
The Lady Vikings came away with first place at the St Edward Holiday Tournament. They downed Lindsay Holy Family 60- 39 and then upended Ne Christian 53-27 in the finals to claim the victory. Leading the way was Dani Clifton; Kristin Papik and Alicia Klute also reached double figures.

The Stromsburg Chamber of Commerce held its first meeting of the new year Thursday, January 16 at Lottie’s Bagen. New presi dent Bruce Schmidt welcomed the 35 members attending.
The Stromsburg Vikings moved to the semi-finals of the Central Eight Conference Tournament by beating Osceola 34-33.
A carry-in dinner was held in Honor of Lillian Ogden’s 95th birthday. Relatives and friends met at the activity room of the Midwest Covenant Home.
FORTY YEARS AGO
January 28, 1982
The Stromsburg Commercial Club held its first meeting of the year Thursday noon, January 21 at the Hotel Cafe with 37 business people attending. The meeting was called to order by James Rosenquist, who called for the previous minutes. He then turned the gavel over to Paul Johnson who will be the president for 1982.
Mrs Maurice Newcomer returned last Monday from a three week visit in Venezuela where she visited her daughter, Jill, who teaches in San Cristobal.

January 27, 1972
The Stromsburg Vikings, under the direction of Coach Kurth DeLand, captured the Goldenrod Conference crown.
Byron Burke has accepted a call from his church to be a missionary in Korea. Byron is the son of Mr and Mrs. Raymond Burke and is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Joe Wittgren, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wittgren, has been chosen to be in the 1972 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.

January 25, 1962
The Vikings won their first basketball trophy, since they won the county title in 1955, when they captured second place at the Goldenrod Conference tournament.
Miss Shirley Holm was honored at a bridal shower given by Mrs Herman Anderson and Mrs. Sterling Nelson.
Mrs. Duane Leu and girls and Mr. and Mrs. Vance Teegerstrom and boys were Sunday guests of Mr and Mrs. Albert Teeger strom.
Mrs J.L Hurd visited her sister, Mrs J E. McCarty of York last Tuesday afternoon.

January 24, 1952
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Cockle was treated for a bad cut at the doctor’s office
Mr and Mrs. Conrad Olson are the parents of a boy born January 17.
“On Moonlight Bay” starring Doris Day, Gordon MacRae and Jack Smith is now showing at the Burg Theatre.
The new 1952 Chevrolet is now on display at Sward Chevrolet Company. Last Saturday, 500 persons called to see the car.
Stromsburg defeated Osceola by a score of 43-35. The rebounds were controlled by Burgason and Nordberg. Ronald Johnson lead the scoring with nineteen points.
EIGHTY YEARS AGO
January 22, 1942
Reynold Peterson fractured both bones in his lower leg last Wednesday when a tree he was chopping down fell on his leg.
Miss Anna Weiss of York and Roy W. Carlson of Stromsburg were married January 14, at the Lutheran parsonage in York.
LeRoy Smith, Country Treasurer, resigned to take a job in Columbus. His deputy, Carleton Anderson, has been appointed to serve for the remainder of the term.
