Former Husker offensive lineman Cole Pensick died in a one-vehicle crash in northeast Polk County.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call Saturday morning about 6:45 a.m. of a vehicle in some trees. The crash occurred at the intersection of 141st and Q roads.
The 32-year-old from Columbus was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators determined that Pensick, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on 141st when it went through a stop sign at a “T” intersection, leaving the roadway and came to a rest in some trees.
Polk County Sheriff Dwaine Lagwig said they do not know what caused the accident, which is still under investigation. He said the accident occurred between midnight and when they responded to the call.
In addition to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Nebraska State Patrol, Duncan Fire and Rescue and Columbus Fire and Rescue responded to the crash.
