Valborgs Natt, the Swedish translation for Walpurgis Night, is a popular, annual festival celebrated in Sweden with singing, dancing and a bonfire at dusk. It was thought that the bonfire would scare away predators before letting the animals out to graze on May 1st, while welcoming spring and saying farewell to “twig season” (winter).
