Hunters may start buying spring turkey permits Jan. 12

Hunters may begin pur- chasing 2026 spring turkey season permits from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission beginning at 1 p.m. Central time Jan. 12. Hunters are reminded they may harvest no more than one turkey per calendar day during the spring season.

Fischer Announces Military Academy Nominations for Class of 2030

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S.Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) released the names of the Nebraskans she is nominating this year for U.S. service academies.“I’m proud to nominate 40 impressive Nebraska students for acceptance to our nation’s prestigious military academies.
On Saturday, January 3rd the Cross County boys traveled to Gretna High School where they were part of the Inaugural Hoops for Feek Invite. Coach Brad Feek was the Gretna boys basketball coach who lost his battle with cancer in December of 2023. Hoops for Feek was started in 2022. Photo provided.

Freezing Temperatures Hamper Fire Crews in Battling Pillen Family Hog Barn Fire

Several volunteer fire departments spent more than four hours battling a hog barn fire early Monday morning near Humphrey, contending with extreme cold and strong winds.Fire crews were dispatched to a Pillen Family Farms hog barn located approximately 3.5 miles southeast of Humphrey at around 3 a.m.
