HPC Student Passes Away in Accident

Payton Ackerson, a sophomore at High Plains, was involved in an accident over the weekend and passed away.Ackerson was a member of the volleyball team, the basketball team and the track team as well as involved in many other activities at High Plains.
The Polk County Sheriff’s office is looking for the driver of this vehicle who did damage in Polk between 3-6 AM on Sunday August 30th. Photos were provided by security cameras.

Polk County NewsIn the early morning hours of August 30th, 2026 the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Village of Polk for a reckless driver. Upon arrival the vehicle in question was gone but left much damage to the Village of Polk. Witnesses stated the vehicle was a white Dodge Ram.

Missouri River Outdoor Expo Honors America 250th

The Missouri River Outdoor Expo at Ponca State Park will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary Sept. 19-20 with more than 100 outdoor activities and a special lineup of Nebraska history speakers.The free, family-friendly event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
