OSCEOLA - Eight more Quilts of Valor were awarded in Osceola last Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 23-24). They were made and presented by Halee and Emma Peterson.Ryan Sandell served on active duty in the United States Air Force from June 2000 to August 2004.

Mattison Sentenced to 50 Years in Prison for Second Degree Murder

CLAY CENTER – Anthony Mattison, 36, of Osceola, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for killing a Columbus woman and dumping her body in rural Clay County.He was also sentenced to 48 years in prison for use of a firearm to commit a felony.The shooting victim was Jasmine Garnett, 25.

Our annual turkey contest was a success. We hope everyone enjoyed going to the stores and started some holiday shopping. We had 16 local businesses participate, and 115 entries dropped off. The Osceola FoodMart had the most entries. Although one person would’ve won 8 times if we let him.

Don’t be bored this holiday season. Polk County has a performance and program coming this month!This Saturday, singer Brad Ramp is coming to Calvary Lutheran Church in Swede Home. He is a touring worship leader based out of Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn, Nebraska.
