Becky Carlstrom, Librarian Hello from the Polk Public Library! Upcoming event: Wendy Hudson will be at the library on Monday, February 26th at 6:30 p.m. to talk about her grandmother’s journals. This is open to everyone! Please come and join us. A light evening meal will be provided.

Everyone has heard of the Lincoln Highway, and probably also the Meridian Highway which went through Polk County. But a new one for me was the “High Line Cutoff.” Promoters for this road envisioned a more direct route running south from Central City across a new bridge and on east to Omaha.

Speech at GINW

It was a small but mighty Cross County Speech Team that traveled to the Grand Island Northwest Speech Meet on Saturday, February 17. Ellasyn Pinkleman took 5th in Humorous Prose. Revin Nyberg placed 11th in Serious Prose. Kylie Moore placed 6th in Extemp.

Swedish Festival

The first meeting of the Swedish Midsommar Festival was well attended with a lot of good discussion. The dates are set for June 14-16. There are needs for leadership and help in several areas. The chicken/pork BBQ and parade are two places where help is needed and planning needs to start.
