From Doc Toline, Polk County VSO On Monday, February 26th the VA announced that all veterans who were exposed to toxins and other hazards while serving in the military (at home or abroad) will be eligible to enroll directly in VA health care beginning March 5th.

SECOND TRIP TO STATE

STROMSBURG -After beating Superior by ten points, 52-42, Cross County students stormed the floor to celebrate a second year in a row qualifying for the girls’state basketball tournament. Cross County comes in seeded fourth and will play (Wahoo) Bishop-Neumann as the fifth seed.

Twin River Schools put in an application to join the Crossroads conference. The conference schools vote. First it goes to the superintendent’s and they vote. Nine out of eleven school superintendents voted in favor of Twin River Schools joining.

Highway 81 Meetings Announced

Inheritance Tax Uses in Polk County

LB 1067 has been introduced in this session of the Nebraska Legislature which would eliminate the inheritance tax in Nebraska over the course of a five year period.

On Wednesday the 14th, the Shelby-Rising City Husky Speech Team Competed at the Howells-Dodge Invite. Results: Aiden Zimmerman, Gavin Ohnemus, Jorge Chavez, Mackenzie Kunz, and Kreyten Zimmerman placed 3rd in OID. Clare Willis placed 3rd in POI. Kaylei Perry placed 6th in POI.

Gresham News

Pop tabs can be dropped off at the bank in Gresham for the Ronald McDonald House in Omaha. 2024 Community Calendars are available from the Gresham Community Club at the bank and C-Store. St Peter Lutheran Church will hold Lenten services on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m.

The Shelby Legion Auxiliary will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, February 27th at the Shelby Legion Club. The meeting will start at 1:30 p.m.
